Not my kitchen, but that of my parents. Hard to believe they’ve been in that house almost 4 decades (next month will actually mark 40 years). One previous remodel in the early to mid ‘90s when the granite countertops, SS appliances and wood floor went in (and my vintage audio gear, amongst other things, were stolen by unscrupulous  contractors). You can still see remnants of the original ‘70s vinyl flooring in one of the pics.

The appliances are all failing apart in one way or another, the floors are all cupped from a leak under the slab portion of the floor that caused all sorts of mold issues and other damage over the years, and it was just dark in there. They’ve been living fairly modestly since the great recession, watching the ol’ homestead fall apart and getting a little depressed about it. The place was paid off decades ago, so needless to say there’s plenty of equity in there.

From what I hear they’re going with today’s typical grey and white. I don’t know if it’s what they like now or if they’re doing it because it’s more resale-friendly these days. I personally like warmer interiors with more wood tones, but I never claimed that my tastes are the norm, especially with today’s buyers.

No - it’s contracted out. It’s going to be a huge job, including raising the ceiling. My dad and I have done many projects around that  house but the scope of this one is just to big for us amateurs and is best left to professionals. Don't get me started on the budget - what they're spending on the remodel is probably close to what I would spend on an entire house where I live...

Damn, I spent basically 9ish grand on the kitchen. And I did this project right before we moved in, and now I have to do the shower and that is gonna be in the neighborhood of 3,500. I am tired of spending money but I want my house to be nice, it is not easy .

Well, the money that they're spending on the refrigerator alone - not the one they wanted but the one they settled on - could buy a new Mirage...
